Jonathan Edwards (1703-1758) preached about “the divine and supernatural light” – an
exceedingly excellent light that is the true manifestation of God. Like the Apostle Paul’s
Damascus Road experience, Edwards taught that once we experience the incomparably
brilliant and powerful Light of Christ, our lives are forever changed. The holy and loving
presence of God cannot be discovered or experienced by mere mortals unless the Holy Spirit
communicates with us supernaturally. While nature speaks of the existence of God, we will
never fully know God except by revelation as God speaks directly to our hearts.

Many of us get caught up in the whirlwind of life – rarely taking the time we need to quiet our souls and listen for the voice of God. Scripture admonishes us to “be still and know that I am God.” Sometimes there are so many competing voices and anxious thoughts in our heads that we have difficulty hearing what God is saying.

And some of us have not yet experienced this amazing life-changing Light. In the book of
Jeremiah God speaks through his prophet: “If you seek me with all your heart you will find
me.” Are you seeking Him with your whole heart? Have you tried to reach out to God and
given up? There is no goal or pursuit as important as that of knowing God.

Jesus said, “If you have seen me, you have seen the Father.” Have the eyes of your heart
truly seen Jesus? It is only through Christ, the true living Word of God, that we can fully experience the piercing Light of God’s Holiness and Love. If you haven’t been ‘blown away’ in amazement by the exceeding excellence of God in Jesus Christ, then ask the God-Man to reveal his great love and come into your heart today. Christ is the only path to the Father because he is himself God. We come to know the Father as we ask Jesus to forgive our sins and come to live within us in the form of the Holy Spirit.

If you are actively seeking God, don’t ever give up this all-important pursuit. Pray that Christ will reveal himself as pure holy light and that the darkness in your soul will be invaded by a Love and Goodness that is the very heart of God. Our Heavenly Father is speaking through his Word, the Bible, and through the Word made flesh, his Son. Open your ears, eyes, and heart. Find a quiet solitary place, meditate on God’s Word, and humbly ask God to reveal himself to you. He promises that he will. And when you are awakened by the brilliant searing light of Christ, his amazing, awesome, exceedingly excellent presence will dramatically change your life – for all eternity.

And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.
