A Loud Silence

“Be still, and know that I AM God.” (Psalm 46:10)

When God speaks we often miss it. The “still, small voice” of
God is easily drowned out by the distracting drone of weariness
that accompanies an over-filled busy life. Like noisy locomotives
speeding through dark tunnels at a neck-break pace, we often
miss the essential life-giving whispers of the Almighty.

We must make space in our hectic lives for silence. Wisdom
cries out in the marketplace to all the passersby: “Stop your
foolish, futile, frantic activities and listen to my cry.” Yet we
weary wanderers with cotton in our ears are often deaf to
Wisdom’s call.

Only when we quiet the noise within and without, do we notice a
distant symphony that reverberates on our heart-strings. There
is a resounding Word – a piercingly real yet peacefully gentle
voice of love – that desires to reach to the depths of our souls.
Healing, teaching, restoring, and centering our lives – the voice
of Father-God leads us home.

A loud silence resonates through space and time. The prophets
heard it long ago. So can you today. Take a deep breath, and
then breathe out. When you exhale release your worries, your
stress, your plans and schemes – release your will, and let God
through Christ restore & quiet your soul.
